The third Test match between England and India at Lord’s ended on July 14, 2025, with England winning by 22 runs in a match that kept everyone on edge until the last ball. The five-match series, part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, is now at 2-1 in England’s favor after this dramatic finish.

England batted first and scored 387 runs, thanks to Joe Root’s 37th Test century. India matched that total exactly, a rare event in Test cricket history, happening only nine times before, according to ESPNcricinfo. KL Rahul led India’s reply with a solid century, supported by Rishabh Pant’s 74 and Ravindra Jadeja’s 72. In the second innings, England managed 192, with Washington Sundar taking four wickets to set India a target of 193.

So near, yet so far….
Jadeja, Bumrah, & Siraj fought all the way till the end. Well tried, Team India.
England played well to keep the pressure on and produced the result they desired. Congratulations on a hard fought win.

The final day was tense. England started strong, reducing India to 58/4 by the end of Day 4. On Day 5, Jofra Archer struck early, dismissing Pant in the third over. KL Rahul, who made 39, fell to a sharp delivery from Ben Stokes. Archer then took a brilliant caught-and-bowled to get rid of Sundar, leaving India at 82/7. A partnership between Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy gave India hope, but Chris Woakes broke it before lunch.

After lunch, Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah fought hard. Jadeja, the ICC’s top-ranked Test all-rounder, reached his fourth straight half-century of the series. But when Bumrah tried to pull a Stokes delivery, it went to substitute fielder Sam Cook, ending their stand. Jadeja kept battling, scoring an unbeaten 61, but it wasn’t enough. The match ended when Shoaib Bashir’s delivery tricked Mohammed Siraj, hitting the stumps and bowling India out for 170.

Team India fought till the last run — with heart, grit, and that never-die spirit. 🇮🇳

England’s pace attack, led by Archer (3-55), Stokes (3-48), and supported by Brydon Carse (2-30) and Woakes (1-21), proved decisive. This win shows England’s aggressive “Bazball” style, which has boosted their Test win rate since 2022, per ICC stats. India’s young team fought well, but couldn’t overcome the home side’s momentum.

The series now moves to Old Trafford for the fourth Test on July 23. Fans are already talking about what could happen next in this exciting battle between two strong teams.
