The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Motiram Jaat in Delhi in a sensational case. The NIA has claimed that Motiram Jaat had been leaking sensitive information related to India’s security to Pakistan’s intelligence agencies since 2023. This case has raised serious questions about the country’s internal security system, especially at a time when the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir has left the entire nation shaken.
According to the NIA, Motiram Jaat was arrested on May 21 during the investigation of the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam in April 2025. The Pahalgam attack claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of whom were Hindu tourists, although a Christian tourist and a local Muslim also fell victim to the attack. Following the attack, security forces launched a nationwide operation against terrorists and their facilitators. As part of this operation, Motiram Jaat was detained on suspicion of engaging in suspicious activities.
The case was presented in Delhi’s Patiala House Court, where Special Judge Chanderjit Singh granted the NIA 15 days of custody of Motiram Jaat. The court stated that this matter pertains to national security and the lives of citizens residing in India. The judge also mentioned in his order that the NIA needs to investigate what sensitive information the jawan provided to Pakistan and how his cross-border connections were established. The accused is scheduled to be presented in court for the next hearing on June 6.
According to sources related to the investigation, Motiram Jaat had shared critical information related to India’s security with Pakistani intelligence officials in exchange for money. Senior CRPF officials began interrogating him on May 17 after receiving information about his exchange of information with certain “anti-national elements.” Subsequently, he was formally handed over to the NIA on May 21.
This incident has come to light at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are at their peak. Following the Pahalgam attack, India held Pakistan-backed terrorists responsible for the incident. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the attack as “the largest attack on civilians in recent years,” while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called it a “cowardly act.” Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also raised questions about the government’s Kashmir policy after the attack but simultaneously expressed support for the government in combating terrorism.
The CRPF, which is India’s largest central armed police force, has set many examples of bravery, such as thwarting a Pakistani Army attack in 1965. However, this incident has highlighted the need for stricter monitoring and vetting processes within the force. Experts believe that such incidents pose a significant threat to India’s internal security, and there is a need to further strengthen the intelligence system to prevent them.
The NIA is now conducting an in-depth investigation into the case, aiming to uncover how Motiram Jaat established contact with Pakistani agents and what specific information he shared. Meanwhile, security forces have intensified operations against suspects across the country to prevent such incidents in the future.
