The Patna University Student Union Election 2025 is set to take place on March 29, and preparations are in full swing. Various political parties from Bihar are fielding their candidates through different student groups, whether it is Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party or RJD. Every party is putting forward its candidates to secure their interests in the election.
A total of 43 students have filed nominations for different positions, and the university has already released the official list. The last date for filing nominations was March 19 at 3:00 PM, and students from various departments submitted their nominations within the deadline.
Patna University releases the final list
The Chief of Election at Patna University reviewed all the documents and eligibility criteria of the nominated students, and on March 20, the university released the final list. According to the list, five students have been declared invalid due to various reasons, making them ineligible to contest the election.
List of disqualified candidates:
- Divesh Dinu – He was contesting for the President post from Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, but the Chief of Election declared his nomination invalid. The reason given was that he has been enrolled in Patna University for more than five years, which violates eligibility criteria.
- Manoranjan Kumar Raja – He was also declared invalid for the Student Union Election 2025. Raja was contesting for the President post from National Student’s Union of India NSUY . The Chief of Election stated that his admission in the university was more than five years old, making him ineligible.
- Dheeraj Kumar – He was contesting for the President post but was also disqualified. He was contesting for the President post from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU).
- Manjeet Kumar – He had filed a nomination for General Secretary, but his nomination was declared invalid because his nomination papers were missing a signature.
- Ankit Kumar – He had also filed a nomination for General Secretary, but he was disqualified because he had been enrolled in the university for more than five years.
Prashant Kishor Had Criticized JDU and BJP
The founder and president of Jan Suraaj Party, Prashant Kishor, criticized JDU and RJD on the day of the nomination filing. He accused both parties of playing politics in the university and interfering with students’ futures.
Prashant Kishor said, “JDU couldn’t even find a candidate for the student union election.” He also blamed Nitish Kumar and BJP for the declining academic standards of Patna University. He said, “15-20 years ago, IAS and IPS officers were directly recruited from Patna University, but today its academic level has deteriorated.”
More than 20,000 students to vote in this election
The nomination process for the Patna University Student Union Election has been completed, with March 19 as the last date. The election is scheduled for March 29, and more than 20,000 students will cast their votes, including both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
For the President post, 11 students had filed their nominations, out of which three were disqualified. For the Vice President post, 9 students had filed nominations, and one student was disqualified. For the General Secretary post, 9 students had submitted their nominations, and two were declared invalid. For the Joint Secretary and Treasurer posts, 7 candidates each had applied.
