Fake Commentary on MS Dhoni’s Batting Goes Viral

The excitement of IPL 2025 is at its peak, but a viral video has stirred controversy among cricket fans. A clip of MS Dhoni’s batting from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match recently surfaced on social media, featuring commentary allegedly by Aakash Chopra. However, the commentator has now clarified that the video is digitally edited.

The incident is linked to the CSK vs. RCB match on March 28, 2025, at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK was chasing a target of 197 but struggled, losing 7 wickets for 99 runs in 15.2 overs. As MS Dhoni walked onto the field, the crowd erupted in cheers, chanting his name. The viral video captures this moment but with an added voiceover purportedly of Aakash Chopra.

A user on platform X, @45fan_Kushagra, shared the video, captioning, “No way Akash Chopra said this.” The voice in the clip used phrases similar to Chopra’s signature commentary style, raising questions about its authenticity.

Some users found it amusing, while others criticized it as misleading. Another user, @nishoptionbuyer, claimed that the commentary was actually from when Dhoni hit his first six of the season, not when he entered the field.

After doubts were raised, a community note was added to the post, clarifying that the video was digitally altered. It also linked Aakash Chopra’s official post, where he debunked the claim.

Aakash Chopra’s called “views/engagement badha lo

Aakash Chopra addressed the controversy on his X handle, @cricketaakash, stating, “Six maarne ki commentary ko arrival visuals par chipka do…views/engagement badha lo. God bless you, Kushagra” that mean ” Overlay the six-hitting commentary on arrival visuals… increase views/engagement. God bless you, Kushagra”

He provides Hindi commentary for Viacom18 and has a unique style, he claimed that he never makes statements that could be misrepresented.

This isn’t the first time fake content involving cricketers or commentators has gone viral. The incident once again highlights the growing risk of misinformation spreading through deepfake and edited videos on digital platforms.
