Jannik Sinner took home the Wimbledon title on July 13, 2025, making history as the first Italian man to do so. The 23-year-old beat defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a tough five-set match, ending 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The game, played under the Centre Court roof because of rain, went over four hours and had 9.2 million viewers watching, based on Sky Sports numbers. This is his fourth Grand Slam win, adding to his titles from the 2024 Australian Open, 2024 US Open, and 2025 Australian Open, and he stays the world’s top-ranked player.

Nothing but class from Jannik Sinner 👏

Sinner’s run through the tournament was solid. He made it to the fourth round without dropping a set, beating Spain’s Pedro Martinez 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 in under two hours. He kept up the pace, losing just 17 games in nine sets during the first week. In the quarter-finals, he took down Grigor Dimitrov 7-5, 6-4, 6-2. The semi-final against Daniil Medvedev was close, but he won 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the final. His steady play under pressure was key.

This is a proud moment for Italian tennis. Sinner, from Innichen in northern Italy, started with skiing before focusing on tennis at 13. His family—his dad a chef and mom a waitress—helped him stay focused. He joins Adriano Panatta, who won the French Open in 1976, as a standout Italian player. Sinner speaks German as his first language, reflecting his roots.

Away from the court, Sinner has shown other talents. In 2022, he did a video series with GQ called Breaking Points, chatting with athletes about mental health. In 2023, he appeared in a short film series, A Hero’s Journey, which also became a podcast. During the 2023 Wimbledon, he carried a beige Gucci duffel bag onto Centre Court, breaking the all-white rule and causing some talk. This year, he followed the dress code but let his game shine.

Wimbledon 2025, the 138th edition, ran from June 30 to July 13. It had new rules like automated line judges and finals starting at 4:00 PM. Sinner’s win with the famous trophy marks a new page in tennis.
