New Delhi, June 24, 2025 – The Indian cricket fraternity is in mourning following the passing of former left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi. Doshi, aged 77, died on Monday in London after suffering a cardiac arrest. Tributes have poured in from across the cricketing world, with many recalling his significant contributions to Indian cricket.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and various cricketers, both current and former, expressed their condolences. The Indian cricket team, currently on tour, is expected to wear black armbands in their next match to honor the memory of the departed cricketer. This gesture is a customary mark of respect for members of the cricketing family who have passed away.

Despite playing much of his career in the shadow of the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi, Dilip Doshi carved out a niche for himself with his unwavering resolve and skillful left-arm spin. He made his Test debut at the age of 32 and went on to play 33 Tests and 15 One Day Internationals for India, taking 114 Test wickets at an average of 30.71. His first-class career was even more prolific, with over 800 wickets.

Leading the tributes was batting icon Sachin Tendulkar, who remembered his first meeting with the “warm-hearted” Doshi during a tour of the UK in 1990. Other cricketers and commentators have also shared their fond memories, highlighting Doshi’s gentle nature off the field and his fierce competitive spirit on it.

Dilip Doshi’s demise marks a sad day for Indian cricket, remembering a dedicated and talented player who served the nation with distinction. His legacy as a resilient and effective spinner will be cherished by fans and players alike.
