The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) 2022 selection process has once again come under controversy. This time, the case involves a candidate selected under the visually impaired (VI) quota, who was seen riding a motorcycle. Surprisingly, the candidate also possesses a driving license, raising questions about the validity of their disability certificate. This incident has once again highlighted the serious issue of misuse of the disability quota and fraudulent certificates in Madhya Pradesh.

A social media post brought attention to the matter, featuring a picture of the candidate with the caption: “A visually impaired candidate selected under MPPSC 2022 quota is seen riding a car and a bike; he even has a driving license.” The post tagged Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, urging him to intervene. The picture showed the candidate sitting on a motorcycle with the number plate MP 17 MY 3462.

The controversy deepened when a report by Dainik Bhaskar revealed that several candidates had allegedly obtained fake VI certificates just before the MPPSC exam. The report claimed that over 450 fake disability certificates were issued by a hospital in Morena district. It was alleged that individuals involved in this fraud paid bribes ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh to obtain these certificates. In several instances, genuine disabled individuals were reportedly paid to appear for medical examinations on behalf of the candidates to secure fraudulent certificates.

The issue sparked outrage on social media. One user commented, “Let me know if action is taken against these fake disabled candidates. More than half of those selected under the hearing-impaired quota are also frauds. Every district has at least 100 such fake individuals working in various departments.” Another wrote, “This is common in Madhya Pradesh. Whether it’s Vyapam or MPPSC, pay money and get selected.”

This is not the first time the misuse of the disability quota has surfaced in Madhya Pradesh. In 2024, a similar case made headlines when Priyanka Kadam, an MPPSC-selected candidate under the orthopedic disability quota, was accused of performing a dance despite claiming physical impairment. Experts say that the misuse of the disability quota in Madhya Pradesh has become a serious issue. To prevent such fraud, stricter regulations and a more transparent verification process are urgently needed.
